New rebellions in Congo

12 Lug

The General Lafontaine deserted and takes control of the city of North Kivu

The M23 guerrilla movement, after the capture of the town of Rutshuru and the subsequent retreat, he occupied the city of Stealing and Ntamugenga located in the axis road between Goma and Rutshuru, thus isolating the city.

Settling on a position of military strength and control of a vast mineral-rich control, the Political Coordinator of M23: the renegade Bishop Jean Marie Runiga, raised to the Kinshasa Government’s offer to open peace negotiations, while the Congolese Army the FARDC is still adrift in the east. In an uncertain situation now Kinshasa is now compelled to face new rebellions.

The General Kakulu Sikuli Vasaka Lafontaine has in fact deserted the FARDC and created a new rebel movement, along with former Minister of Foreign Affairs Nbusa Nyamwisi: This is the PARECO-APLCS formed mostly by soldiers of origin Nande The newly formed rebel took control of strategic town in North Kivu Lubero, and Kasiki Mbwavinywa, located on the main road connects with the three main cities of the Province: Butembo, Beni and Bunia.

The General Lafontaine belongs Nande ethnic group, and is the leader of the military-APLCS PARECO. His arrival on the scene would seem to indicate that the Nande traders and politicians have decided to move against President Kabila as a result of strong contrasts with the Central Government because of their will to develop the territories Nande in North Kivu.
The rift between ethnicity and the central government would be consumed in a recent meeting took place in Kinshasa where President Joseph Kabila had invited MPs Nande blame for the situation in the east of the country.

One of their spokespersons, who returned to Butembo (main stronghold Nande in North Kivu) reporting the outcome of the meeting at the Chamber of Commerce have expressed serious concerns sull’incolumitá physical Parliamentarians present in Kinshasa. The Chamber of Commerce Butembo, then, in agreement with those of Beni and Bunia has considered the meeting took place at the capital as defamatory and has issued the order to return immediately in North Kivu of all its delegates.

Well-informed sources indicate Nande traders of Butembo, Beni and Bunia as the main financiers of the rebel General Lafontaine. There are suspicions that are reasonably would include the M23. Colonel Akilimani, long-time defector and founder of the guerrilla movement PARECO formed mainly along the Congolese Hutu Kahasha Colonel commanding a well-armed militia, an ethnic Hema, were activated in the Ituri region (eastern Turkey). Currently there are two movements that concentramenti appresterebbero to join in the struggle with the combined forces.

Also comes the news, denied by the government of Kinshasa, a mutiny of troops in Katanga that would pass under the command of former Congolese Chief of Police: General Numbi disgraced because of his personal friendship with the Rwandese Minister of Defense General James Kabarebe that during the second Pan-African war in Congo (1998 – 2004) coordinated the Rwandese army of invasion to the east of DRC.

According to Ugandan military sources, the various rebel movements they would be forming a united front to overthrow the Kabila government.
The M23 would have strengthened his ties to CNDP (author of the rebellion of General Nkunda: 2004 – 2007) and they would be forming a Staff consisting of Terminator, the Colonel Sultani Makenga, (leader of the M23), and the current Chief of Police Congo, General Bisengimana that would be gathering in secret a few thousand insurgents in the western provinces and in the hinterland of the capital Kinshasa. Observers indicate that the regional plan to overthrow the government of Kabila is already known.

The M23 and the CNDP should march on Goma and take control of North Kivu and South Kivu later. The General Lafontaine and Nyamwisi, are marching on the city of Beni Butemo and should join with the troops of Colonel and Colonel Kahasha Akilimali controlling Ituri, where there is little presence of government troops.

The military column that would be formed by the union of these rebel movements, with nearly 6,000 men should march to the city of Kisangani to Kinshasa before continuing. Historically, the fall of Kisangani has always been the preamble to the fall of Kinshasa.
Once captured Kisangani General Bisengimana is supposed to open hostilities in the western provinces and in the hinterland of the capital Kinshasa to await reinforcements. Simultaneously, the General Numbi should give the boot to the hostilities in Katanga.

Complicating the situation is the resumption of hostilities by the guerrillas of the Rwandese genocidal FDLR which would meet with other genocidal militias called Interahamwe (the main authors of the genocide of 1994). The joint genocidal forces conquered the city in the Province of Nyamirima Rutshuru, 18 km from the borders of Uganda and Rwandans. The army of the Congolese FARDC that protected the city has fled without a fight and says he was attacked by more than 6,000 rebels. The number should be between 2 and 3,000 men.

The input stage of the Rwandese genocidaires would think that the Kinshasa Government has decided to use these rebels to cope with the M23 and the well-established guerrilla coalition now seen the complete absence of organized resistance by the Congolese FARDC army.

Apart from an intense propaganda of newspapers in Kinshasa Congolese Government continues with the stubborn silence. The few releases of the General Staff of the FARDC talk about tactical retreats and an impending counteroffensive. In reality it is a stampede where the soldiers abandon their weapons, but not only gettono uniforms to wear civilian clothes stolen from the people. Heavy artillery, mortars and a few armored vehicles, including two tanks, would also have been abandoned. Both the M23 that the forces of the genocidal FDLR would come into possession of this important military arsenal.

Apart from the capital of North Kivu, Goma and the main city of South Kivu, Bukavu and Uvira, to the east there is no longer a government army could regain control of the territory. In the city of Goma has recorded events of anti-Tutsi and anti-organized by the Rwandans ‘motorcyclists’ (the drivers of motorcycle taxis). Two days ago, during a demonstration would have killed a couple of Congolese citizens of Tutsi origin. The majority of Tutsi Congolese and Rwandans have left Goma to take refuge in the border city of Rwandese Kisegny and Rubavu.
Similar events have been filed in the capital but prevented by the police and the Presidential Guard, although there are isolated cases of man-hunt against Tutsi Congolese who bring to mind the mass lynchings occurred in 1996 and 1998 in reaction to the Congolese rebellions led by Rwanda and Uganda.

While Uganda continues to play the role of mediator, Rwanda seems to be getting more involved. Although there is no evidence of the presence of Rwandese soldiers in Congo, most observers agree that regional in Kigali last week decided to coordinate the various guerrilla movement to overthrow the government of Kabila.
The coordination of the new Congolese rebel coalition would be entrusted to the Rwandese Minister of Defense General James Kabarebe who has already coordinated the Congolese rebel coalitions of 1996 and 1998.
If the military uprising in the Congo will continue to march on Kinshasa deciding the presence of Rwandans and Ugandans soldiers alongside the militia of General M23 and Nande Lafointaine will be inevitable. Washigton not commenting on the situation suggests a veiled condescension.

Meanwhile, President Kabila, who is also the Supreme Head of the Armed Forces, continues to be absent. Rumors and leaks from Parliament show that the government is terrified of the Nande ethnic rebellion, which until now has always been loyal to Kinshasa and was a bulwark of political, economic and military troops against pro tusti Rwanda. The alliance between the Nande Congolese Tutsi militias and made headlines in the region since the two ethnic groups are ancestral enemies. This new fontro Nande – Tutsi indicates to what extent the situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo have fallen.

Despite the promises of peace talks in the country descends into chaos with each passing day.
